TIPS & IDEAS

Congratulations on booking your proposal with Hamilton Island Weddings!

To get things started, our team have compiled a few tips, just for you…

SAY WHAT?

Have a plan for what you would like to say when you ask your partner to marry you… from the heart is best but you don’t want nerves to get the better of you if you decide to ‘wing it’.

PLAN IT…

Plan the whole day…. Not just when you will pop the question. Keep that special feeling going afterwards and have some champagne to celebrate.

TIME IT…

Think of the perfect time of day! Afternoon and early evening proposals are better light for a photographer to be able to capture the moment. Before sunset for dinner proposals so that you are not in the dark.

DRESS TO IMPRESS…

Wear something nice… even if you are going to the beach, don’t wear crazy bright patterns and avoid logos on shirts etc. that won’t look good in photos. Also take off your sunglasses!

BUT LET THEM DRESS TO IMPRESS TOO…

If you go to the beach make sure your partner is wearing something nice for the surprise, which might be hard if you don’t normally recommend what they wear, but give the excuse that you will be going for lunch or dinner afterwards. Take them shopping for new clothes a few days before as another treat if you can get away with it.

TALK TO THE PRO’S…

Talk to your photographer/videographer before the proposal date so that you can both come up with a plan. Your photographer/videographer can pose as a tourist or can stay out of sight to capture the real moment live. We recommend organising a massage, facial or special treatment for your unsuspecting partner the day before the proposal, this should will give you enough time to meet with your Planner and/or Photographer to discuss the details.

Please be sure to book this meeting in advance, before you book the treatment for your partner, as our team can get very busy and an appointment time will need to be pre-arranged.

TRANSPORT…

Have any transport requirements booked and sorted so that you can enjoy your champagne and also don’t have to worry about finding places and adding any stress to your nerves, but make sure any staff involved know what’s going on, so they don’t ruin the surprise.

WILL THEY SUSS YOU OUT?

planning on keeping the surprise till the very last second? Do you need a decoy? If you’ve chosen a flight or tour as part of your proposal, and if it’s not something you would usually organise or spurge on, perhaps tell your unsuspecting partner that you won it… and advise them days/weeks before, this way they won’t get so suss on the day.

THINK OUTSIDE THE RING BOX…

There might be a different way you can present the engagement ring, especially if you are out for lunch or dinner – like at the bottom of their champagne glass. Staff can help prepare any extra surprises you want to have in store for the love of your life.

BE YOURSELF…

If you’re planning is finished you should relax, then your partner won’t be suspicious that something is going on.
